This blue ceramic mug was thrown on the wheel. It holds 12 liquid ounces. This is a fun mug for coffee, tea, OJ, or just about anything.
It is glazed in a baby blue transparent glaze that when fired results in a thick glossy finish. One ledge on the outside is left bare to reveal the texture and color of the iron in the clay. The interior is fully glazed and watertight.
The color and luminosity of this glaze is really difficult to capture in a photo. If you look very closely you can still see freckling of the iron from the clay body beneath. Stoneware reduction firings cause the iron to migrate out of the clay to seek oxygen during the firing. This glaze maintains a fairly consistent light and icy blue appearance in both natural and artificial light.
