height: 3.75 inches
width: 3.5 inches
This blue striped ceramic cup was thrown on the wheel. The total height is just under four inches. The width is about three and a half inches wide. The opening at the top is about three inches wide.
When I threw it, I used a textured potter’s rib to form a deep groove into the wet clay. I used an transparent blue glaze letting it pool among the ridges. I left the peaks unglazed, so you can see iron-based clay.
This is a fun cup for hot tea, whiskey, or just about anything. The opening at the neck is about three inches wide a little texture on the side, making it perfect for for a good grip.
The color and luminosity of this glaze is really difficult to capture in a photo. If you look very closely you can still see freckling of the iron from the clay body beneath. Stoneware reduction firings cause the iron to migrate out of the clay to seek oxygen during the firing. This glaze maintains a fairly consistent light and icy blue appearance in both natural and artificial light.
Whiskey and tea not included. Dimensions are approximate.
